Description
Definition. The Shrimp cohort is a widespread catch-all for retail level investors holding < 1 BTC. This chart presents the total balance held by the Shrimp cohort as a line trace 🟠, and the 30-day net position change of the Shrimp balance as columns 🟧, alongside price (grey).
Technical. The cohort balance aggregates the entity-based supply distribution bands below 1 BTC:
Shrimp Balance = Supply held by entities with balance < 0.001 + 0.001-0.01 + 0.01-0.1 + 0.1-1 BTCNet Position Change = Shrimp Balance - Shrimp Balance 30 days ago🟧
Balances are measured per entity (clusters of addresses estimated to belong to the same participant), not per address.
Interpretation. Historically this entity cohort has consistently added to their balance, and thus looking at relative aggressiveness is usually most informative: sustained runs of large positive columns mark phases where retail participants absorb supply at an above-trend rate, while negative prints are comparatively rare. The cohort is also quite sensitive to volatility, with the rate of balance growth often reacting to sharp price changes, both upwards and downwards — accelerated accumulation has historically appeared both in capitulation events and around euphoric rallies.
