Technical. BTC difficulty is often denoted as the relative difficulty with respect to the genesis block, which required approximately 2^32 hashes. For better comparison across blockchains, values here are denoted in raw hashes.

This is the Point-in-Time (PiT) variant of Difficulty. PiT metrics are strictly append-only and their history is immutable. The historic data does not necessarily reflect the best current knowledge, but the information at the time when a data point was first computed.
