Description
Definition. Spot Volume Price Trend (VPT) is a cumulative indicator that combines price and volume, weighting volume by the percentage price change from the previous period to track the strength of price trends and flag potential reversals.
Technical. Each period adds or subtracts a portion of volume scaled by the period's percentage price change, producing a running total. Unlike OBV, which uses absolute volume changes, VPT weights volume by the magnitude of price movement, making it more sensitive to the degree of price changes. Computed across spot trades aggregated from exchanges where USD or USD-related currencies serve as the quote.
