On-Balance Volume (OBV) is a cumulative momentum indicator that relates volume to price changes. It adds volume on up days and subtracts volume on down days, helping traders identify the strength of price movements. Positive OBV indicates accumulation (buying pressure), while negative OBV suggests distribution (selling pressure).
This metric tracks OBV for spot trades aggregated across exchanges, where USD or USD-related currencies serve as the quote.
This is the Point-in-Time (PiT) variant of Spot On-Balance Volume (OBV). PiT metrics are strictly append-only and their history is immutable. The historic data does not necessarily reflect the best current knowledge, but the information at the time when a data point was first computed. PiT metrics are ideal candidates for applications in model backtesting and related quantitative purposes. Read our article on PiT metrics for more information.
