BTC Dominance, or Bitcoin Dominance, denotes Bitcoin's market capitalization as a percentage of the total market cap of all cryptocurrencies. It's calculated by dividing Bitcoin's market cap by the total cryptocurrency market cap. This metric is updated daily at 10:15 UTC, providing us with the previous day's data point at this time.
This is the Point-in-Time (PiT) variant of BTC Dominance. PiT metrics are strictly append-only and their history is immutable. The historic data does not necessarily reflect the best current knowledge, but the information at the time when a data point was first computed. PiT metrics are ideal candidates for applications in model backtesting and related quantitative purposes. Read our article on PiT metrics for more information.
